For 20 years, Leeton Breast Cancer Support Group has been breaking bread

The Pink Dinner was loved by all

For 20 years, one small, but mighty group in Leeton has forged on with its battle to help defeat breast cancer.

The Leeton Breast Cancer Support Group is made up of a small group of members and supporters who dedicate their time to raising funds.

Its main and indeed, most popular, fundraising event every year is the annual pink dinners held at Pages on Pine.

In 2024, these dinners have celebrated their 20th anniversary over three nights of fundraising, festivities, fine good and fantastic company.

At the helm of the organising throughout that entire time has been Laney Lashbrook-Gough, who also paid tribute to Eric and Vanessa Pages for their support each year.

“They have really helped to keep it going for the 20 years, we couldn’t have done it without them,” Mrs Lashbrook-Gough said.

“This year and last year we had people who have never been before, which is so special considering it has been going for such a long time now.

“With the 20 years, we decided to do three dinners. Usually it’s just the two. All of them were a huge success.

“We decorated the restaurant and most people wore pink or lovely bright colours, so it just looked so amazing.

“We had some fantastic meals, we auctioned off some wonderful Indigenous art work.

“Each year I’m just blown away by the support from everyone.”

Money raised by the group and from the pink dinners is donated to Leeton Can Assist.

This ensures the money stays local to help local people.

Mrs Lashbrook-Gough believes the reason behind the longevity of the dinners is due to the community’s support and generosity.

“Every year I am completely overwhelmed and amazed by how much people are willing to help and to donate … businesses especially,” she said.

“Most of the time now, I don’t even need to ask. They are happy to give what they can and, considering how tough times are for so many people, it’s amazing.

“I can’t thank everyone enough.”

The cause itself is more than enough to keep the support growing.
