Ruby Miller takes stage as SunRice Ambassador

Ruby Miller will be the second of the 2026 SunRice Ambassadors

Ruby Miller is the second of the 2026 SunRice Ambassadors to take the stage, raising money for a cause very close to her heart.

Miss Miller is raising money for regional cancer support foundation Leeton Can Assist, after the charity assisted her family twice in her lifetime.

The first instance was when she was just young, as Can Assist supported the family when her father was diagnosed with terminal oesophageal cancer. He passed away in 2009.

In 2016, the family was supported by Can Assist again when Miss Miller’s grandfather became unwell.

It made it an obvious choice when it came time for Miss Miller to find someone to support as an ambassador.

“Can Assist have helped our family out in the past. My main objective is giving back to the community, and to them,” she said.

“I want to raise as much as possible – there’s no amount that can do justice to what they do … It’s not easy, but I’d do anything to give back to the community after they’ve given to me.”

Miss Miller’s name will be familiar to much of Leeton, as the town’s 2025 Deaflympics star. It was while she was competing in Japan that the seeds were planted for her next challenge.

“Mum was being messaged by the organising committee as they needed another ambassador. We had a meeting when we got back.”

The first of Miss Miller’s fundraising events will be a car boot sale: akin to a mass garage sale with less set-up.

“You rock up at the Hydro, open up your boot and sell like a garage sale. It’s 30 dollars per car slot, and gold coin on entry.”

In addition, she’s partnered with the Wade Hotel for hundred clubs, raffles and other events. There’s a lot she’s got planned, but said her family were backing her.

“It’s a bit stressful trying to organise the events. It’s just my mum and my brother, and some family friends helping. It’s mainly me and mum,” she said.

For those interested in supporting Miss Miller and Can Assist but can’t make it to the events, donations are also being accepted online.
