After a throat cancer diagnosis, Mal was told he needed to travel to Sydney for treatment that would most likely save his life - 375 kilometres away from Lake Cathie – that’s a 750km round trip.
The cost of fuel, travel, accommodation and time away from work nearly stopped him from going.

When Mal found a lump in his neck, he and his wife Alison never imagined how far the diagnosis would take them from home. The treatment offering him the best chance of recovery from throat cancer was in Sydney - more than 375 kilometres from their life in Lake Cathie.
