The heart and soul of Can Assist are our volunteers.
“We are a well represented team from towns across country NSW, north to Moree and Glen Innes, West to Nyngan and south to Deniliquin. We all work on a volunteer basis, we know our communities and we are priviledged to represent them.” Michael Jackson, Vice President and Director since 2014
Our Board and Patron are a group of diverse and inspiring individuals committed to our organisation. All volunteer their time to bring a wide range of business, not-for-profit and commercial experience to Can Assist. The Board oversees the strategic direction of the organisation and ensures the highest level of ethics, compliance and governance.
Our branches are run by dedicated members who all volunteer their time and energy. They share the goal to support those affected by cancer within their community. Our members are fundamental to the sustainability of Can Assist.
Can Assist recognises the selfless contribution of longstanding members with Honorary Life Membership. Our organisation only exists because of these dedicated people who put time, energy and enthusiasm into being part of the fabric that holds rural NSW together for those affected by cancer. We thank them.

There have been clients who would not have undertaken the recommended cancer treatment without Can Assist’s financial support. Cancer patients in the Bega Valley may be required to travel long distances for treatment. The nearest radiotherapy treatment (typically required daily for 5 or 6 weeks) is in Canberra – some 3 hours’ drive from here. The costs associated with travel, accommodation and groceries may be prohibitive ……
Can Assist removes this financial obstacle in healthcare.
