Leeton BRANCH
Murrumbidgee Region
Can Assist Leeton was formed in 1982. Our branch is an enthusiastic and sociable team of volunteers who are always looking for new members. We support our community wholeheartedly and are supported by our community wholeheartedly. We raise funds to provide financial assistance to people in our local community who are undergoing cancer treatment.
Areas Serviced: Barellan, Brobenah, Calorafield, Corbie Hill, Gogeldrie, Leeton, Merungle Hill, Murrami, Stanbridge, Wamoon, Whitton
We understand that families struggle to cope with a reduced income as a result of a cancer diagnosis and that they face increased expenses from travel, accommodation and medical costs.
Lilier Lodge provides accommodation for people undergoing cancer treatment at nearby facilities including the Riverina Cancer Care Centre, Wagga Wagga Base Hospital and Calvary Hospital.
Purpose built by Can Assist and the Cancer Council NSW, with the support of local and regional communities, it is managed by Can Assist. The 21 bed lodge is a warm and supportive home away from home.
Our Branch would not exist without our members, volunteers and community supporters. We thank them for their contribution.
Lilier Lodge
Located in Wagga Wagga, Lilier Lodge provides relaxing and homely accommodation for people undergoing cancer treatment to nearby facilities. They understand the specific needs of cancer patients and their carers.
Areas Serviced: Barellan, Brobenah, Calorafield, Corbie Hill, Gogeldrie, Leeton, Merungle Hill, Murrami, Stanbridge, Wamoon, Whitton
Every Can Assist branch has a story.
Meet Leanne. 👋 Leanne is the face of this year’s Can Do the Distance campaign. And just like so many of us, she’s doing the distance for someone she loves: her sister, Ellie.
Ellie was supported by Can Assist Harden and Young throughout her cancer journey, helping her and her family navigate the 5,000km they travelled for treatment. When Ellie’s cancer returned aggressively, she sadly passed away at just 27 years old.
👟This August, Leanne is walking 270km in Ellie’s memory, taking on 10km for every year of her sister’s life. Ellie was passionate about spreading the word about Can Assist so more country families could find the support they need, and find it earlier. Leanne is carrying that message forward with every kilometre.
Maybe you could be the face of next year’s Can Do the Distance campaign? Or perhaps you know someone whose story deserves to be shared?
There’s still time for our local community to get behind our branch and help raise funds to support people affected by cancer right here in our community. ❤️ Give back locally and donate to our branch today: www.candothedistance.org.au
