Can Assist Branches are initiated and operated by local community volunteers. Many are initiated after a personal experience of cancer or because of a specific interest. Can Assist resonates for these volunteers as every dollar raised, local stays local.

Marlene, a bowel cancer survivor, experienced first-hand the unique support of Can Assist when she was going through treatment.
“Their support blew me away and so when I was well again, I decided to open the branch in Merriwa,” she said.
Marlene established the branch in 2020 and just a year later, was surrounded by 21 volunteers who supported 10 local cancer patients. “What sets Can Assist apart from other charities is that all money raised stays local to help local cancer patients across the district.”
