Junee Can Assist roaring engines ride through Tumut

Tumut played host to the deafening roar of hundreds of motorcycles riding for a cause on Saturday when the Junee Poker Run came through town.
One of the biggest and longest running charity bike rides in Australia, the Junee Poker Run brings together hundreds of riders each year, touring NSW regional centres and raising money for Junee Can Assist.
Over 400 motorcycles were involved in the 21st annual iteration of the major regional event, which stopped in at the Tumut Golf Club for lunch.
A representative from the club described the turn-out of motorcyclists, supporters and officials as “quite the entourage”.
“It’s the first time we’ve had so many people within the club that I know of, and I’ve been there for close to eight years,” they said.
“It was a bit different seeing a whole heap of bikes parked on the greens instead of golfers, and just the sound the bikes made was amazing.”
Golf Club workers set up a number of different bar stations within the club house so all the riders could be fed and back on the road as quickly as possible, with the riders’ packed schedule limiting the time they could spend in town.
“They only had around a 40 minute stopover at each venue before they had to move on again,” the club representative said.
“The Junee Can Assist ladies organised a barbecue for them, and the RFS cooked it. The riders said it worked out really well for them with easy access and quick serving food.
“I heard someone give us a bit of praise for how well organised it was and how smoothly it ran at the club.”
