Dear Can Assist Community,

Season’s Greetings

As another year draws to a close, I am delighted to share the latest edition of Branching Out and to reflect on the busy and inspiring quarter across our network. Congratulations to everyone. Your stories, achievements, and the collective dedication of our members, volunteers, and supporters shine brightly throughout these pages.

This past quarter was particularly special as we came together at NSW Parliament House to celebrate our 70-year milestone. I know many of you, while preparing your own events, have had that moment of wondering, How are we going to pull this off? Arranging an afternoon/evening worthy of thanking our branch volunteers who travelled to Sydney was no small task. Yet, together, we delivered a memorable celebration. It was truly heartwarming to acknowledge so many of you in person and, through you, every branch, for the commitment, compassion, and care you provide under the beacon of Can Assist. Seeing volunteers from across the state meet, reconnect, and share ideas was equally uplifting.

Dear Can Assist Community,

At a time when global tensions and uncertainty dominate headlines, the work of Can Assist stands as a powerful reminder of the good that flourishes in local communities. For someone navigating a cancer diagnosis, knowing that neighbours and strangers alike are willing to give their time, care, and resources is an inspiring affirmation that kindness endures, no matter what is happening in the wider world. These following pages showcase some of the wonderful support received and activities undertaken across our network.

I am also thrilled to share that in August we opened a new Can Assist Branch, Canola Way. This community of volunteers, spearheaded out of Coolamon will cover surrounding towns of Marrar, Malong, Ganmain and Rannock. I look forward to seeing their activities fill our future Branching Out pages.

Whilst celebrating a new branch, its was also wonderful to bring together our branch

Dear Can Assist Community,

At the heart of Can Assist lies a remarkable network of volunteers whose strength, compassion, and tenacity sustain not only their communities but also the mission we collectively serve. Nowhere is this resilience more evident than in the unwavering efforts of our members who continue to provide critical assistance in the face of significant adversity, be it whilst mourning the passing of a much loved member or dealing with the devastation of floods.

The Manning Valley branch exemplifies this spirit. For years, like all our branches, its dedicated volunteers have worked tirelessly to raise funds and deliver practical, local support to cancer patients who must travel for treatment. Their work has ensured that no one faces the burden of cancer alone. READ MORE

Dear Can Assist Community,

Another busy quarter filled with events and generous local community support for our branches. Thank you to everyone who gets involved with Can Assist, from arranging the events, participating or donating. Every dollar of assistance raised makes a meaningful contribution to what our network delivers. A special big thank you to our volunteers who show up rain, hail or shine – particularly in cold winter conditions that I see some of within these
pages!

I had the pleasure of attending Lilier Lodge’s 20th Birthday celebrations in May. The enormous amount of work undertaken by Margaret and her team of unwavering volunteers, created a lovely day of reflection and warmth.

Dear Can Assist Community,

I hope you all get as much enjoyment and happiness in looking through this issue of Branching Out as I have. It covers everything from several of our volunteers being recognised for their steadfast commitment and service to community, to the many fundraising events and generous donations. So many lovely photos.

It’s not often we have the Governor of NSW available to present our Honorary Life memberships – I am delighted she could do so to Vicki and Mary Anne from Uralla, such a special moment for two ladies who have donated so much time and empathy to their community and the Can Assist network.

Dear Can Assist Community,

Over the following pages you will find a bumper issue of Branching Out to complete the financial year. I was fortunate to attend several of the events showcased within and at each I enjoyed the fun and festivities. I walk away from events such as the Cootamundra’s Dancing with the Stars or Dubbo Garden Day feeling a sense of inadequacy in expressing my gratitude for the work our volunteers and supporters provide Can Assist and their commitment to helping cancer patients in country NSW. There are so many wonderful Read More

Dear Can Assist Community,

Wishing you, our Can Assist community, a lovely safe and Merry Christmas.

This edition of Branching Out concludes yet another busy year for our Can Assist network and the following pages are a fitting tribute to the hard work and enthusiasm of all our branch executives, members, volunteers and supporters.

With some recent changes with the Can Assist volunteer Board members at the recent AGM, I’ve included a small piece to update you.  Please also look at our most recent Annual Report that can be found digitally on our website at www.canassist.org.au/media

Our thoughts remain with those communities who still are grappling with the impacts of recent flood waters and with those who we continue to assist in their treatment for cancer. I hope in the coming weeks we all have opportunity to be drawn together with family and friends. Read More
