Hundreds turn out for 2025 City2Lake fun run
As the countdown began and the starting gun fired, hundreds of feet thundered along the concrete for a good cause.
The 2025 City2Lake certainly drew crowds, packing the street at the starting line with eager participants warming up before their morning run.
Over 800 people hit the pavement on March 9, setting off from Jubilee Oval on a nine-kilometre walk, run or bike ride to raise money for Griffith Can Assist.
The event is one of Can Assist’s primary fundraisers for the year, going a long way to ensuring the charity can continue providing support for those getting treatment for serious illnesses.
Waiting at the finish line were bacon and egg rolls or sausage sandwiches from the Lions Club, as well as juice and water from the Real Juice Company and the Rapid Relief Team.
In open cycling, Steven Rovere crossed the finish line first with a time of 20m8s, winning the open category closely followed by Hayden Dominish who won the Juniors at 20m48s.
Open women’s cycling went to Mady Collier with a time of 22m01s while the Juniors category went to Tess Canzian with 25m20s.
For walking and running, Jaidyn Roach blitzed competitors once again, crossing the line at 32m59s and handily taking out the 18-35 category. In the 36-55 category, Robert Lansdown took the gold with his time of 35m23s.
Eliza Star took the women’s 18-35 gold, with a time of 40m48s while Sally Cassilles represented 36-55 year old women with a fantastic time of 42m51s.
Young folks were also wearing down the shoe leather.
Jordan Ciampa and Emmi McKenzie took out the men’s and women’s 12 and under categories for walking and running, with times of 36m58s and 1h0m57s respectively.
Callum Vecchio (40m41s) and Lily Wilkinson (53m35s) did the same in the 13-17 category.
