A huge congratulations to Sandy Rogers from our Can Assist Tweed branch for being named NSW Community Hero in the 2025 Women of the Year Awards!
For decades, Sandy has given her time, energy, and heart to support those in need, ensuring country cancer patients aren’t alone in their fight. This recognition is so well deserved, and we couldn’t be prouder to have her as part of the Can Assist family.

Sandy Rogers has dedicated 40 years to improving the lives of children with intellectual and physical disabilities and their families.

In 1977, Sandy’s son was born with cerebral palsy and other major health issues. Sadly, Sandy lost her son when he was 10 years old. He taught her the meaning of unconditional love and was the inspiration for her commitment to helping others.

As Vice President of the Tweed Kids in Need charity, Sandy fundraises to support those needing essential equipment or treatment, ensuring their lives are made a little easier. Sandy recently founded the Tweed Branch of Can Assist, a charity providing financial support to cancer patients.

Thank you, Sandy, for everything you do.

NSW Women of the Year Awards

The NSW Women of the Year Awards celebrate the incredible women and girls improving the lives of people in NSW.

Since 2012 these annual awards have recognised the women and girls whose determination, bravery, skill and passion has inspired their communities and others to achieve great things.

The awards celebrate the role models who challenge inequality, innovate and inspire.

Nominations for 2025 opened on 12 August and closed on 15 September 2024. The recipients of the awards will be announced at the NSW Women of the Year Awards ceremony on Thursday 6 March 2025 as part of NSW Women’s Week 2025, which will run from Sunday 2 March to Saturday 8 March 2025.

The NSW Community Hero Award shines a light on the accomplishments of an extraordinary woman who works tirelessly to contribute to the prosperity of those in her local community.
