A train packed with enthusiasts has set off on a commemorative journey of the C class diesel locomotive.

Organiser Kevin Schultz departed Albury station on Saturday morning in the third and final Raw Power Tour trip.

About 200 people boarded restored heritage carriages on September 20, on a return trip to Cootamundra.

The C501 locomotive, which had been in service between 1977 and 1997, led the journey.

C class diesel locomotives are popular with rail enthusiasts.

Mr Schultz will soon release a book on the subject.

“I’ve done three C class tours in 10 years,” he said.

“I just love them.

“Got in my blood in 1979, and that was it.”

The journey is raising money for a charity to assist regional cancer patients.
