Indoor bowlers double up Can Assist donation

More people in our community can now receive support from Deniliquin Can Assist thanks to the continued generosity of the Thursday Ladies Bowls Club.

Through a recent fundraiser, the club this year managed to collect and donate $1047.90.

The club has about 16 members who meet each week at the Deni RSL Club from 12.30pm for bowls and afternoon tea.

The amount donated to Can Assist was the result of a Daffodil Day event, coordinated by Joanne Chick.

While Daffodil Day is traditionally a fundraiser for the Cancer Council of NSW, Thursday Ladies Bowls Club president Anne Norris said members like that money donated to Can Assist Deniliquin supports local people.

The whole group had the honour of presenting the donation to Deniliquin Can Assist president Kellie Crossley last week.

Mrs Crossley said the local charity group was very appreciative of the support.

“We are very grateful that you have chosen Deniliquin Can Assist again.”

Buoyed by the success of their fundraiser, the Thursday Ladies Bowls Club will consider holding similar events in the future.

Funds raised by and donated to Can Assist helps cancer patients with travel and accommodation expenses, and other associated financial pressures.
