Can Assist Southern Highlands was formed in 1960 . Celebrating its 60th Birthday in 2020, the branch has in excess of 110 members. The branch financially supports individuals and families in our community who are experiencing hardship as a result of their cancer treatment, palliation or end of life care.

We understand that families struggle to cope with a reduced income as a result of a cancer diagnosis and that they face increased expenses from travel, accommodation and medical costs.

Every Can Assist branch has a story.
Meet Leanne. 👋 Leanne is the face of this year’s Can Do the Distance campaign. And just like so many of us, she’s doing the distance for someone she loves: her sister, Ellie.
Ellie was supported by Can Assist Harden and Young throughout her cancer journey, helping her and her family navigate the 5,000km they travelled for treatment. When Ellie’s cancer returned aggressively, she sadly passed away at just 27 years old.
👟This August, Leanne is walking 270km in Ellie’s memory, taking on 10km for every year of her sister’s life. Ellie was passionate about spreading the word about Can Assist so more country families could find the support they need, and find it earlier. Leanne is carrying that message forward with every kilometre.
