Oberon BRANCH
Western NSW Region
Can Assist Oberon was formed in 2009. Our branch has been going strong for over 10 years and thanks to our generous community continues to do so. We have a small committee but we are all dedicated to help people in need when diagnosed with cancer.
Areas Serviced: Black Springs, Burraga, Chatham Valley, Duckmaloi, Edith, Gingkin, Gurnang, Hazelgrove, Jaunter, Jenolan Caves, Kanangra, Mayfield, Mount David, Mount Olive, Mount Werong, Mozart, O’Connell, Oberon, Porters Retreat, Shooters Hill, Tarana, The Meadows, Yerranderie
We understand that families struggle to cope with a reduced income as a result of a cancer diagnosis and that they face increased expenses from travel, accommodation and medical costs.
Our Branch would not exist without our members, volunteers and supporters both from within the community and further afield. We thank them for their contribution.
Our local football team, Oberon Tigers, every year do a major fundraising day for Can Assist. Each year they seem to raise more money than the year before. This is also with the generous donations from our local businesses.

“This report is both welcome and timely; demanding meaningful and lasting reform. Can Assist effectiveness, collaboration and hard work in our submission clearly identifies the problems and they are agreed here in the findings . Now is the time to concentrate and actively work all together on the solutions. Our communities have stepped up and have been finally heard. Can Assist continue to fulfil our role in supporting those in need.” Vicki Meyer, President and Chair of Can Assist
We draw specific reference to recommendation 2 regarding IPTAAS –and encourage swift government action.

If Karen and her husband were living in any other state or territory in the country they would have received a higher rebate – in fact, up to $72 a night higher.
On average, a resident of country NSW will receive $42.32c less a night than the rest of the country. What a disgrace!
Thank you Dr Joe McGirr MP and Helen Dalton MP for helping to bring this injustice to light.
