Merriwa BRANCH
Hunter New England Region
Can Assist Merriwa was formed in 2020. The branch was established to financially support community members of Merriwa and surrounding settlements so their road to wellness is somewhat alleviated.
Areas Serviced: Cassilis, Merriwa, Sandy Hollow
We understand that families struggle to cope with a reduced income as a result of a cancer diagnosis and that they face increased expenses from travel, accommodation and medical costs.
Our Branch would not exist without our members, volunteers and supporters both from within the community and further afield. Can Assist expresses our thanks.

Every Can Assist branch has a story.
Meet Leanne. 👋 Leanne is the face of this year’s Can Do the Distance campaign. And just like so many of us, she’s doing the distance for someone she loves: her sister, Ellie.
Ellie was supported by Can Assist Harden and Young throughout her cancer journey, helping her and her family navigate the 5,000km they travelled for treatment. When Ellie’s cancer returned aggressively, she sadly passed away at just 27 years old.
👟This August, Leanne is walking 270km in Ellie’s memory, taking on 10km for every year of her sister’s life. Ellie was passionate about spreading the word about Can Assist so more country families could find the support they need, and find it earlier. Leanne is carrying that message forward with every kilometre.
Maybe you could be the face of next year’s Can Do the Distance campaign? Or perhaps you know someone whose story deserves to be shared?
There’s still time for our local community to get behind our branch and help raise funds to support people affected by cancer right here in our community. ❤️ Give back locally and donate to our branch today: www.candothedistance.org.au

For Daniel, a proud Worimi man, one message matters most: more First Nations people living in country NSW need to know that Can Assist is here and that it's okay to reach out for help.
As we celebrate 50 Years of Deadly this NAIDOC Week, we also honour the strength, resilience and courage of First Nations people, including those navigating cancer. Every cancer journey is different, but no one should have to face it alone.

When someone in our community is diagnosed with cancer, life can change overnight. Along with treatment comes the cost of travel, accommodation, medication and everyday expenses.
That's where our volunteers step in. Every day, our people are helping local families through some of life's toughest moments. That support is only possible because of our community. The people who volunteer, donate, fundraise and look out for one another.
One thing we hear far too often is: "I didn't know Can Assist could help with that." We want to change that.
Did you know our branch may be able to help with:
🚗 Fuel costs for travel to and from treatment
🏡 Accommodation while away from home
💊 Treatment-related medications
🛒 Everyday living expenses, such as utility bills and grocery vouchers
Please share this post. You never know who among your family, friends or neighbours may need our support one day. Together, we can make sure more people in our community know that help is here before they need it.
