Gundagai BRANCH
Murrumbidgee Region
Can Assist Gundagai was formed in 1985. We assist with costs associated with travel for cancer treatment which may take the form of petrol vouchers, the costs of transport in the community car, travel by rail or air. The branch also makes financial contribution towards accommodation for cancer patients when under going treatment, for example at Lilier Lodge, Wagga Wagga or wherever the treatment centre may be. The costs of medications and dietary supplements may also be subsidised by the branch.
Areas Serviced: Bongalong, Bongongalong, Brungle, Brungle Creek, Burra Creek, Darbalara, Edwardstown, Gundagai, Jackalass, Jones Creek, Muttama, Nangus, Reno, South Gundagai, Tarrabandra, Wagragobilly, Willie Ploma
We understand that families struggle to cope with a reduced income as a result of a cancer diagnosis and that they face increased expenses from travel, accommodation and medical costs.
Lilier Lodge was purpose built by Can Assist and the Cancer Council NSW, together with the support of local and regional communities.
Lilier Lodge provides accommodation for people undergoing cancer treatment at nearby facilities including the Riverina Cancer Care Centre, Wagga Wagga Base Hospital and Calvary Hospital.
Our Branch would not exist without our members, volunteers and community supporters. We thank them for their contribution.
Lilier Lodge
Located in Wagga Wagga, Lilier Lodge provides relaxing and homely accommodation for people undergoing cancer treatment to nearby facilities. They understand the specific needs of cancer patients and their carers.
Areas Serviced: Bongalong, Bongongalong, Brungle, Brungle Creek, Burra Creek, Darbalara, Edwardstown, Gundagai, Jackalass, Jones Creek, Muttama, Nangus, Reno, South Gundagai, Tarrabandra, Wagragobilly, Willie Ploma
Every Can Assist branch has a story.
Meet Leanne. 👋 Leanne is the face of this year’s Can Do the Distance campaign. And just like so many of us, she’s doing the distance for someone she loves: her sister, Ellie.
Ellie was supported by Can Assist Harden and Young throughout her cancer journey, helping her and her family navigate the 5,000km they travelled for treatment. When Ellie’s cancer returned aggressively, she sadly passed away at just 27 years old.
👟This August, Leanne is walking 270km in Ellie’s memory, taking on 10km for every year of her sister’s life. Ellie was passionate about spreading the word about Can Assist so more country families could find the support they need, and find it earlier. Leanne is carrying that message forward with every kilometre.
Maybe you could be the face of next year’s Can Do the Distance campaign? Or perhaps you know someone whose story deserves to be shared?
There’s still time for our local community to get behind our branch and help raise funds to support people affected by cancer right here in our community. ❤️ Give back locally and donate to our branch today: www.candothedistance.org.au

Appreciation Post 💚
A heartfelt thank you to Anne Tickner for her many years of dedicated service as Treasurer of the Gundagai Can Assist branch.
As we’ve recently shared, Anne has stepped down from her longstanding role. Throughout her time as Treasurer, she has generously given countless hours, energy and care to supporting local patients and their families.
Anne’s tireless efforts have helped many people travel to and from treatment appointments, and access essential medications.
On behalf of our local branch and the Gundagai community, thank you Anne, for everything you have done and for the difference you have made to so many. 💚
We are incredibly grateful for your years of service and commitment to Can Assist and our local community.
Whilst Anne is no longer our treasurer, she is still a valued branch member, who will no doubt continue to support us continually.
