Grenfell BRANCH
Western NSW Region
Can Assist Grenfell was formed in 2009. The branch volunteers raise funds to provide financial assistance to people in our local community who are undergoing cancer treatment.
Areas Serviced: Bimbi, Bumbaldry, Caragabal, Glenelg, Greenethorpe, Grenfell, Piney Range, Pinnacle, Quandialla, Warraderry
We understand that families struggle to cope with a reduced income as a result of a cancer diagnosis and that they face increased expenses from travel, accommodation and medical costs.
Lilier Lodge was purpose built by Can Assist and the Cancer Council NSW, together with the support of local and regional communities.
Lilier Lodge provides accommodation for people undergoing cancer treatment at nearby facilities including the Riverina Cancer Care Centre, Wagga Wagga Base Hospital and Calvary Hospital.
Our Branch would not exist without our members, volunteers and community supporters. We thank them for their contribution.
Areas Serviced: Bimbi, Bumbaldry, Caragabal, Glenelg, Greenethorpe, Grenfell, Piney Range, Pinnacle, Quandialla, Warraderry

Timeline photosSurgery in Sydney (1,100km return), 4 treatments of chemotherapy, 17 treatments of radiotherapy and infusions every 3 weeks in Wagga Wagga (260km return) over a 12 month period meant Anna clocked up hundreds of hours of travel. The financial stress and the added emotional strain of being apart from family whilst dealing with a life-threatening illness can be overwhelming. Anna is now cancer free and is a regular volunteer for Can Assist.

After more than 3 years of treatment, 50,000km or 500 hours of driving Tommy is now cancer free and fighting fit.
Childhood cancer is uniquely emotionally draining. The extra financial burdens for families living in rural NSW can be crippling – both parents and often extended family members needing to cut back or stop work all together to make the long journeys necessary for treatment, not to mention petrol and accommodation costs.
