Finley BRANCH
Murrumbidgee Region
Can Assist Finley was formed in 2018. Finley is a small township in the Southern Riverina. We provide practical support and financial assistance to a wide area including Finley, Berrigan, Jerilderie, Oaklands and Savernake communities. Our cancer patients need to travel two hours to Albury, an hour and a half to Shepparton, two and a half hours to Wagga Wagga, three hours to Melbourne and in some cases seven hours to Sydney.
Our local people, businesses and industries are all extremely generous and supportive to our cause.
Areas Serviced: Berrigan, Blighty, Finley, Jerilderie, Logie Brae, Myrtle Park, Oaklands, Retreat, Savernake
We understand that families struggle to cope with a reduced income as a result of a cancer diagnosis and that they face increased expenses from travel, accommodation and medical costs.
Lilier Lodge was purpose built by Can Assist and the Cancer Council NSW, together with the support of local and regional communities.
Lilier Lodge provides accommodation for people undergoing cancer treatment at nearby facilities including the Riverina Cancer Care Centre, Wagga Wagga Base Hospital and Calvary Hospital.
Our Branch would not exist without our members, volunteers and community supporters. We thank them for their contribution.
Lilier Lodge
Located in Wagga Wagga, Lilier Lodge provides relaxing and homely accommodation for people undergoing cancer treatment to nearby facilities. They understand the specific needs of cancer patients and their carers.
Areas Serviced: Berrigan, Blighty, Finley, Jerilderie, Logie Brae, Myrtle Park, Oaklands, Retreat, Savernake
Every Can Assist branch has a story.
Meet Leanne. 👋 Leanne is the face of this year’s Can Do the Distance campaign. And just like so many of us, she’s doing the distance for someone she loves: her sister, Ellie.
Ellie was supported by Can Assist Harden and Young throughout her cancer journey, helping her and her family navigate the 5,000km they travelled for treatment. When Ellie’s cancer returned aggressively, she sadly passed away at just 27 years old.
👟This August, Leanne is walking 270km in Ellie’s memory, taking on 10km for every year of her sister’s life. Ellie was passionate about spreading the word about Can Assist so more country families could find the support they need, and find it earlier. Leanne is carrying that message forward with every kilometre.
Maybe you could be the face of next year’s Can Do the Distance campaign? Or perhaps you know someone whose story deserves to be shared?
There’s still time for our local community to get behind our branch and help raise funds to support people affected by cancer right here in our community. ❤️ Give back locally and donate to our branch today: www.candothedistance.org.au

Canassist members Jill Braybon and Cherilyn Taig recently visited a Thursday night training session at the Blighty Football Netball Club to hand over a certificate of appreciation. It was presented to Vice President Al Nicholls and Executive member George Reid to say thankyou for the generous $2000 donation the club made to the Finley Canassist. This donation was very much appreciated by Canassist as it allows them to continue to support local community clients on their cancer journey. ... See MoreSee Less

👟 What if 30 people from our community joined Can Do the Distance?
If each person raised just $400 (that's only 10 donations of $40), together we could raise $12,000 to help local people facing cancer through our Can Assist branch.
🫂 That's the power of our community coming together.
This August, we're inviting our community to take on Can Do the Distance. Can Assist's month-long walking challenge that helps local people with the everyday costs of cancer treatment. You don't have to be a marathon runner, and you don't have to walk every day. Simply choose a distance that suits you, ask your family and friends to support you, and every dollar you raise stays right here in our community.
Your fundraising helps local people with fuel, accommodation, travel, parking, medical expenses and other everyday costs, so they can focus their treatment. Whether you're walking for a loved one, a friend, a neighbour, or simply because you believe in looking after our community, every step makes a real difference.
Registrations are now open. Join our branch, start fundraising today, and walk with us this August.

🫶 Can't take part? You can still donate to our branch and help local people facing cancer.

Who will you walk for this August? 💚
Not every cancer journey starts in a hospital. For our people, it starts with hours on the road.
That's why we're looking for people in our community to take on Can Do the Distance this August and help ensure no one faces cancer alone.
When you join Can Do the Distance, you're doing more than logging steps. Every dollar you raise goes directly back to our local Can Assist branch, helping local people facing cancer with the practical costs of treatment: fuel, accommodation, travel, parking and other everyday expenses.
Whether you're walking in memory of someone, beside someone, or to make sure no one in our community has to face cancer alone, every step has purpose.
The best part? Your impact stays local. The funds you raise help people in our own community, when they need it most.
Register today, start fundraising now, and walk with us this August.
