Coleambally BRANCH
Murrumbidgee Region
Can Assist Coleambally was formed in 1992 and raises funds to provide financial assistance to people in our local community who are undergoing cancer treatment.
A dedicated group of members who offer catering services for wakes, have open garden days, fashion parades and morning teas with guest speakers as just some of the ways we raise funds to support locals financially when diagnosed with a cancer.
Areas Serviced: Argoon, Coleambally
We understand that families struggle to cope with a reduced income as a result of a cancer diagnosis and that they face increased expenses from travel, accommodation and medical costs.
Lilier Lodge was purpose built by Can Assist and the Cancer Council NSW, together with the support of local and regional communities.
Lilier Lodge provides accommodation for people undergoing cancer treatment at nearby facilities including the Riverina Cancer Care Centre, Wagga Wagga Base Hospital and Calvary Hospital.
Our Branch would not exist without our members, volunteers and community supporters. We thank them for their contribution.

Timeline photosSurgery in Sydney (1,100km return), 4 treatments of chemotherapy, 17 treatments of radiotherapy and infusions every 3 weeks in Wagga Wagga (260km return) over a 12 month period meant Anna clocked up hundreds of hours of travel. The financial stress and the added emotional strain of being apart from family whilst dealing with a life-threatening illness can be overwhelming. Anna is now cancer free and is a regular volunteer for Can Assist.

After more than 3 years of treatment, 50,000km or 500 hours of driving Tommy is now cancer free and fighting fit.
Childhood cancer is uniquely emotionally draining. The extra financial burdens for families living in rural NSW can be crippling – both parents and often extended family members needing to cut back or stop work all together to make the long journeys necessary for treatment, not to mention petrol and accommodation costs.
